In his works, the Norwegian-German artist Yngve Holen examines the relationships and boundaries between the (human) body and consumer culture in various areas of life such as transport, industrial food production, plastic surgery or security systems. To this end, he works with a combination of materials that define our not only our industries today but also our everyday life. He combines mass-produced goods and traditional materials such as metal, marble, glass and wood and uses contemporary industrial manufacturing techniques such as 3D printing, water jet cutting or CNC milling. As well as sculpture, his work includes the interview-based publication series ETOPS.
Yngve Holen’s work is represented in important public and private collections and is the subject of numerous institutional solo exhibitions, including X Museum, Beijing (autumn 2020), Kunstnernes Hus, Oslo (2019), Kunsthalle Düsseldorf (2018) and Kunsthalle Basel (2016). He was awarded the Overbeck Prize (2020), the Robert Jacobsen Prize (2017) and the ars viva Prize (2015).
