Kamijo moved to the US at the age of 16 and completed a BFA in Painting and Drawing at the University of Oregon in 2000, followed by an MFA in Painting and Drawing at the University of Washington in 2002. Kamijo’s exploration in painting and drawing takes an abstract approach to familiar subjects such as animals and human faces, playing with forms and colors with a concise handling of media. Since 2014, he has been working on a series of colorful drawings and recently paintings depicting poodles.
His recent solo exhibitions took place at Masahiro Maki Gallery, Japan, Harper’s Books, New York, NY, GNYP Gallery, Berlin, Stems Gallery, Brussels and at Bill Brady Gallery in Miami (together with Koichi Sato). In November 2019 Kamijo launched the book Poodles in cooperation with Jonas Wood at S2 at Sothebys. He is currently working on his upcoming exhibition at Jack Hanley in NYC in September this year.
